The Organization of Nomenus

A Network Based on Consensus
Nomenus is a network of Radical Faerie gay men, mostly on the West Coast of the US, who come together to manifest our collective visions of faery sanctuary, community and spirituality. We use the consensus process rather than voting in all of our meetings so as to take in the wisdom of each of us in our decision-making. It is an interactive and creative process of finding how to weave our visions together, and we encourage you to ask if you are finding it a bit confusing.

Circles and Committees
We have a number of circles or committees to focus on various aspects of our collective project, including Building, Community on the Land, Finance, Gathering Planning, and Long-Range Planning. They meet anywhere from once a month to once a year depending on what they are working on.

Coordinating Council
We also have a Coordinating Council (CoCo) with meetings in Wolf Creek, San Francisco, and other cities where members want to participate, which meet on the second Sunday of the month to review committee happenings, make decisions about spending money and certain other things, and to discuss topics of concern to the organization.

Great Circle
Twice a year, in Spring and Fall, we have Great Circles. These are board meetings open to all members to discuss and decide on big picture things like overall policy, big expenditures, building things at the Sanctuary, and officers.

Officers
We have four officers, the President, the Chief Financial Officer, the Corporate Secretary and the Corresponding Secretary, as well as a number of Sanctuary Caretakers, all of whom are consensed upon for six-month or one-year terms by committee. As we are a consensus-based organization, our officers have no more power within the organization than any other member. They have simply committed to perform certain tasks for the duration of their term.

Membership
Membership is open to any gay male identified person who agrees with the purposes of Nomenus; that is, to create, preserve and maintain places of spiritual and cultural sanctuary, for Radical Faeries and their friends to gather in harmony with nature, for renewal, growth and shared learning. We ask members to participate in our consensus process, whether by attending Great Circle or by just keeping themselves informed of our current affairs. All members have equal access to the decision-making process; officers and committee facilitators are differentiated only by having greater responsibilities.

Publications
We publish our newsletter, the RadDish, for members on a monthly basis, with writings on our collective project, listings of Radical Faery events, and reports from the various committees and circles. We also publish the Nomenews on an irregular basis to let the broader faery community know about what we are doing.
