Nomenus: How to Get Involved

Membership

Nomenus is a non-profit, consensus-based organization whose purpose is to create, preserve and manage places of spiritual and cultural sanctuary where Radical Faeries and their friends can gather in harmony with nature for renewal, growth and shared learning. Membership must be renewed annually and is open to gay-identified men, in agreement with the principles of the organization as outlined above. Members of Nomenus agree to involve themselves actively in the implementation of the corporation’s goals and purposes, using the consensus decision-making process. There are numerous ways to participate. Twice a year we hold Great Circles where major decisions are made and policy is set. We have monthly Coordinating Council meetings on one Sunday of each month to deal with the ongoing business of Nomenus. There are also several task-specific committees to work on, and we always need help in such areas as fundraising, building projects, and providing consultation in various fields of expertise. In addition to these, there is always financial support! Membership requires no dues, but we are always very appreciative of any donations received. In the end, it's up to you to decide how you want to participate as a member. For more detail about membership and the organization of Nomenus, see our Nomenus Organization page.

Donations

New! Check out the Lucky 13 Nomenus Fundraising CD!

Even if you choose not to become a member, or if you already are one, we are eternally in need of donations of money and goods. You can pledge money by mailing in a check to Nomenus (see our Contact page), by visiting the Sanctuary, by attending Gatherings, why, the possibilities are endless! You might also want to visit our Wishlist page to see if some of your old belongings could be used at the Sanctuary, or if there's something else that you might possibly want to give to Nomenus (we're very gracious about accepting gifts).
And there's two ways to give to Nomenus that won't even cost you a penny: Community Thrift and Affinity Long Distance. You can donate your unwanted drag and baubles to Community Thrift and designate Nomenus as a recipient of a percentage of the sale of those items. Every quarter Nomenus receives a check for 37% of gross sales after taxes for everything sold that's donated in our name. In 2001 we got $350! Community Thrift is located at 623 Valencia St. (in SF). Donations are accepted from 10AM-5PM daily. If you have any questions about what they'll take, call them at (415) 861-4910. You can also sign up with Affinity as your long distance company, designate Nomenus as your beneficiary organization, and we receive 5% of your long distance charges. They offer competitive rates, and we recently received a check for $100 from them. If you're interested in switching to Affinity, you can call them at 1-800-670-0008 or visit their website (see above).

Further Involvement

We welcome your involvement in a number of other ways. If you're already a member, you can join one of the Nomenus Committees (circles or groups that meet for a particular focus or to recommend plans of action to our twice a year planning meeting, the Great Circle), or you can pick up a copy of the RadDish and see what sorts of things need focusing on (and maybe even get a subscription for yourself!). If you're not a member, just ask around- there's always plenty to help out with!
If you've already been exposed to Nomenus and you are interested in becoming an officer or a Caretaker, you may want to get involved in some of the circles and committees to get a sense of how that part of Nomenus works, and also talk with the current officer or Caretakers to find out more about what doing that job is like. To be a Caretaker, it's a good idea to spend some time at the Sanctuary and get involved with the Community on the Land Committee (COTL). Feel free to ask a caretaker or COTL about our Caretaker-in-Training process, as we've done quite a bit of refining of it in recent times.
